For Issue #3 we want to look at the world of cinema through a trans lens. Some examples of things we are interested in:
Poetry and experimental writing that engages with film or cinematic language, scripts and writing that uses the script as format, storyboards, and artists who would be interested in creating a storyboard from another writer’s script/text, excerpts from graphic novels, hybrid essays that blend memoir with other genres, work that re-writes or re-tells movies from a different perspective, good old-fashioned reviews, critical analysis of your hated/loved movies, love letters to cinemas and video rental shops, fanfiction, film stills from your video/film work and/or interviews with trans people who work in the film industry, odes to the VHS, celluloid, DVDs, themed screening programmes or ‘movie playlists’, extremely nerdy special interest niche writing about something film related & everything else that we haven’t yet dreamed of but relates to cinema!
Please note, you don’t have to write about something explicitly “trans” for Almanac, but you do have to be trans to publish with us.
✶ Deadline for submission: Sept 30 (24:00 EEST)
✶ Accepted pitches will have until October 20th to submit the final text
✩ €200 fee/payment is offered for your work
︎︎︎If you are pitching to work with/interview another person, please confirm that that person is on board and has time (note the final deadline) to work with you before you submit to us.
︎︎︎If you are using photography/images that belong to, include or were made in collaboration with other people, please confirm that everyone is okay with being published before you submit to us.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
✶ Poetry submissions: Maximum 6 poems
✶ Prose/essay submissions: 4000 words / 20,000 characters max
✶ Pitch proposals: 1 page about your idea and 1 sample of previous writing
✶ Scripts: Max 10 pages
✶ Artwork and Photography: Max 10 images, 72dpi, jpegs only
✧ Almanac is a journal for trans/non-binary/gender non-conforming/questioning people. We recommend reading our website’s FAQ if you have more questions.
✧ Almanac offers each contributor €200 and mails you a copy of the journal. We also give feedback, editing and writing support to all contributors.
✧ We strongly encourage previously unpublished/new writers, poets and artists to submit.

FAQ
How do you pay?
Right now we have Paypal/Bank Transfer/Mobile Pay as options. We are looking into other methods for the future.
Can I send multiple submissions?
Yes! Send everything in the same email and stick to the guidelines for each type of submission. Please include everything as attachments. We don’t need high resolution images/artwork at this stage so keep the files small.
When will we be notified of our submission status?
By the end of October 2023.
Do you accept languages other than English?
We are happy to accept other languages than English if they are accompanied by an English translation. We are working on having translation for Almanac in the future.
Is being gender questioning enough if you’re cis?
We would say if you identitfy as cis then this isn’t the space/oportunity for you right now but you are always welcome to come back and submit in the future if anything changes.
